Monday Morning Missouri River Fishing Report 7.22.19
Trico’s. Daily hatches grace us for the remainder of the month and the entirety of August, and some of September.
PMD’s still a factor. Get some today! Spinners rule the day, during the spinner fall, mostly in the morning…per the Pale Morning Dun namesake.
Caddis? Big Time. Spents, emergers, scuzzy sort of float flies work well.
Sally’s sort of in the canyon. Sort of.
Drakes? Maybe. Probably done man.
Trico nymphs will start to play a role for the nymphing gang. Zirdles and Crawfish too. Stock up on a few when you stop by the shop. This is. fly that is a must, and that you must have. Headhunters, the Best Flies in the Big Sky, has all of the must have flies for your Mo River Game!
PMD nymphs still strong. Even without the daytime emergence. This time of year the PMD does a bunch of his work in the dark. A good time to get it done. That is why we still see the spinner falls, but not the emergence. But the PMD is totally valid and should not be overlooked.
Caddis nymph? For those int he know. The canyon is a great reach to employ the caddis pupa. Olive too.
Start thinking Callibaetis nimps in the canyon as well. A big PT, or stop in and see what secrets 7wt has in store for you. This is a fly that you should not be without when the going gets tough below Craig.
Some good dry fly action on the lowest reach towards Cascade. Try it. But this heat this coming week with daytime air temps reaching to the upper 90’s may stifle the action. Higher water temps, lower oxytocin’s levels, less fish activity.
We will be heading out early this week for our guided trips to beat the heat. Consequently, the coffee will be on early. Open at 630 am, and if it gets real hot I bet we open the doors at 6am. Call the Mo River Trout Fishing Hotline @ 406-235-3447.
The Headhunters Fly Line is live and selling beyond or projections and expectations. You gotta stop in and cast this dry fly specific line created for tailwater, Spring Creeks, and of course our favorite river, the Missouri River of Montana. Available in 4, 5 and 6 weights. John and Mark will be filming the video this week. So, coming to a blog near you in August, the HH Fly Line Video!

The Headhunters Dry Fly School coming up this week starting Thursday evening! Good times. 4 returning HH School students from previous schools. Will be a fun, educational, and damn fishy time! Reports coming as they happen with our Dry Fly School. Still room in our September Sub Surface School. Inquire within.
Been having a fabulous two months of dry fly fishing. Unreal. More to come. The difference will be the angling pressure. Light pressure in August. A good time to be on the river. This may be the third consecutive epic August. Will you be here?
