Monday Morning Fishing Report

Monday Morning Fishing Report

Headed into the final week of March. We are looking forward to leaving March. Just like February, just another annoying month as we wait for the real action to start.

Not that we don’t like the entirety of winter, we just like spring, summer, and fall better. That’s all.

So April is upon us. But before we say farewell to March we must fish it out strong.

Missouri River Fishing Report

Nymphers

PINK. Until you try something else. Sow bugs are strong too. Then finish the day with a BWO pattern.

Depth. 5′-6′ from bobber to split. Wade fishing? Try it without the split. And in the boat too. If you have a heavy enough fly you can go without. Although some reports of anglers using a BB to really get it down. Most of the time a B will suffice. But you control your own destiny.

Soft insides. But look at some moving stuff too. No outside sexy water yet. Still a couple months from that type of water.

Streamer Anglers

Stripping a bit faster. But not ripping it. Slow is the still the word. Keep tight on it as the takes are not always ferocious. Black, small, flashy, and big. Ambiguous? Yep. Fish the junk you dig man. That is the word.

Slow tailouts. Some fish in shallower water. Structure is always something to focus on. The water temps are rising with the top temp being 39.5F. Getting closer to that 40F mark. BWO’s at 42F.

Swingers are out there getting it done. Stay with it if you do not have early success. A good bite in the afternoon. Find a great run ager lunch and work it. Then find another. Repeat.

Dry Fly Report

Pretty weak this last week. Maybe better this coming week. Be strong, not weak and look for a few tipping toward the surface.

Midges are out there. Clusters and single midge patterns can provide action up top. Headhunters has a wide selection of midge dry fly patterns for your spring DFO fantasies.

Current Water Flows

Water Flows will remain in the 4K range for a while. It will bounce back and forth as the water managers decide how to deal with bait better than average snow pack and a bit below average March precipitation.
