Missouri River Montana Fishing Report 9.1.13

September 1st and all is well. The river is fishing good enough for most and we are excited about getting ine day closer to fall.

Summer will stick around for a few more days, or weeks. Then the fall goodness will begin.

Until then, we are in a holding pattern of good fishing in the mornings, decent to poor in the afternoons, and finishing with decent evening angling.

85F to 90F for the week ahead, looking like summer.

Missouri River Fishing Report

Dam fishermen are doing well in the am’s and many are drifting to Craig with hoppers and the like. Some are double lapping up top. Some are not.

The techy dry fly gang is launching at WC and doing well enough with caddis patterns, Trico’s, smaller terrestrials, and generic cluster stuff. Look for the rising fish and attack. You may conquer. In front is a good idea. Stay there too.

Some good reports from Craig down, from Mid Canon down, and still some anglers on the lower reaches too.

Downwinged caddis are hot with spinners of the Callibaetis variety too. The nymphers are all hopped up on small PT stuff, midge patterns of all types and styles, purple anything, and home brew tailwater tiny flies.

Water temps are still in the upper region of trout comfort, keep them in the water for your best survival rate. They are not in danger, but forward thinking keeps more of them in the battle ready mode.
