Anglers spread from the top to the bottom. Some cloggage near the dam in the am, not tot bad in the pm.
Nymphing at the dam is the thing to do for some. Quiet at both the WC and Craig Bridges. Try it, you might like it.
The canyon is fishing some days and not others. Pretty much the August theme. It can get really tough out there, synonym hard, synonym slow. Will it turn the corner in August? Historically cooler weather coupled with afternoon thunderstorms.
Trico’s while anemic should last into the center of the month. Not too terrific on the hatches of late. Will it ramp back up? Maybe.
The hopper bite can be good and bad. Depends on the day and depends on the reach. Depends on the angler too. The key is…wait for it, wait for it, wait for it. It has been easy to snatch the fly right out of the mouth of that hungry trout. Refusals will be part of your day too. Low riding hoppers are the theme as of press time. Those super floaty type of flies are not really all that man.
Weeds not as bad as many make them out to be. The daily hatch quotient not all that terrific either. If you are coming to fill your day with rising trout you may want to call and get an update from someone at the store. This is not the strongest late July in recent years.
Some Spruce Moths around and saw some Callibaetis yesterday as well. Pseudo’s out there will make some fish rise in the afternoon period. Ants and beetles will see some action if you stay with it.
