Missouri River Montana Fishing Report 2.12.14

The cold spell is over. At least for the time being. I’m sure we will get back to it.

The last couple days the Headhunters Crew headed outside, braving the elements, actually felt like 40F yesterday and today after climbing out of the basement with temps below 0F fro what seemed like a year.

I know it was shorter. I think…

The good news is the river above Mountain Palace is fishable. Sort of. Still lots of snow on the boat ramps and not all are usable. We accessed the Wolf Creek Ramps today at the crack of noon-thirty and promptly got temporarily stuck. 4WD for sure to get out.

Missouri River Montana Fishing Report

Most are tossing the bobber but some are getting the job done with the streamer.

Mostly swingers with Clousers, non-weighted buggers, leeches, and some success with white.   Remember you can stop in and demo any number of double handed rods. Free of charge. Nowhere else can you demo the number of Spey rods in Montana. You true source here on the Missouri.

Bobber chuckers? Pink, Firebeads, Zebra’s, small narrow mayflies. TH normal stuff for February. Slow insides and some medium stuff too. Find your lane and get after it. Fishing well from the Dam to Mid Canon. Although you should check downriver to see if the boat ramps are accessible, and the icebergs in the river too.

Dry fly anglers can find a few if they look late in the day. Some sporadic rise forms here and there. Slow slack ass water types. We have a number of effective winter midge patterns in stock.

Shuttle service running daily. Your only full time shuttle service on the river. Open daily from 8am.

Cabins are still at the winter rate beginning at $100. Call one of our knowledgable staff and get yourself into a warm cabin for your winter visit.

The weather ahead? Better than it has been. This cold and snowy weather is good for our summer ahead. Should be a really great on again. Honest.
