[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Missouri River Fishing Report February 17th. Water levels are holding at 3700cfs about 1000cfs below our winter average. Water temps are 36.5F. Pretty standard for February.
And this mid-February fishing report is pretty standard too. Many anglers spread out throughout the river from top to bottom. A good winter float is to either put in or take out at Craig. Both floats give you plenty of opportunities to not only boat fish but to reply and fish on foot. Boat assisted wade fishing allows you to get away from any road access spots. The Road Less Traveled for sure. Why not fish through a run that is fresh.
The Missouri River does have a ton of public access. We appreciate the opportunity allowed by our local land owners and participation with Fish, Wildlife and Parks. So whether you hoof it or drift it you will find a great selection of winter fishing runs.
Winter flies are all working depending on the mood of the fish. More and more mayfly patterns leaving the shop as we get closer to the still distant BWO hatch. Midge patterns are of course a good and solid choice for those who lie to use the net.
Some choosing the throw the streamer rod. Those that are finding success are speaking of swing and stripping technique rather than pattern. The pattern that works is the one on the end of your rod. But having said that most are interested in Kreelex, Skiddish Smolts, any UV treated patterns, smaller and slender bugger creatures, leeches, Clousers, Dalai Lama’s…
The fish in the last couple weeks have been at the bottom of the swing. Don’t give up on the strip or the jig though. as soon as you do it will change. The only thing we know for sure in the angling game is that when you begin to become stagnant you generally stop catching fish. Static behaviors kill.
The e=weather looks great today with light winds. Tomorrow the winds pick and the weekend ahead show mild temperatures. Fishing? Could be good. Gotta go to know. No?
