Last Years Fishing Report Today

It is damn good for cold water temperatures. Yep, pretty good.

Some fella’s even caught some on a dry fly yesterday. In between wind gusts.

Today much calmer here in Craig. The afternoon promises 42F. We like that temperature. No freezing guides here.

The gang that was out this weekend in questionable fishing weather, for this author, caught a bundle of fish.

Mainly nymphets in that wind, with the spey gang fishing their single handed cousins.

Flies that are hot include anything big and pink, or with a fire bead. Many have also stated that the Zebra is on fire. On fire they say!

Streamer fishing still unbelievably in the mix. The water temps seem too cold at 34F, but the fish will eat it. Mostly on the hang down, the dangle. Slow swing these days boys.

Some guests in claiming no fish in the river. We discovered through conversation that they were sinking their flies in faster summer type waters. No dice fishy friends. Weknow that there are not fish hanging or holding in that speed of water. Right?

Our fish are holding only in the soft inside bends in 2’+ft of water. Find them really deep too. In deeper end run buckets. They love this type of water in the winter months. Specifically as we endure these colder water temperatures. Not until March will they move much. It is easier to cool the water column than to warm it.

[forecast]

The weather for the week looks dandy. Warmer winter temps will allow =floating and wade fishing this week. Get on out on New Years Day. The Craig House, sleeps 6, is still open for New Years Eve. Why not stay in Craig starting the New Year right fishing on the Missouri River. That will bring good things your way all year long!
