Missouri River Montana Fishing Report 8.7.13

Fishing is pretty good. August is here and the crowds have left for the month.

They will come back when the month wanes and we move into September.

Until then, it is pretty nice to have much of the river to yourselves.

Some reaches are nearly vacant. The canyon is one, amongst others. Some pressure at the dam but even there it has experienced a small respite. Go wherever you want and enjoy.

Small tiny technical dry fly fishing is occupying your mornings. Some pod behaviors in spots too. You can find a few in those localized honey spots throughout the day, based on the pressure and the weather. Go stealthy and find a few ant eaters.

Nymphers re getting it done in all water depths. Short, medium, and long are bring the fish to the net. Sows, PT’s, Czechs, FB’s, worms, Zebra’s Caddis Pupa’s…yah, all good bets.

Some really nice fish coming to hand this last week and we can only expect it to get better.

Weather is summer like in Montana.

[forecast]

Water Temps are holding well below 63 most morning now and the flows are @ 3100ish for most of the time.

Plan your September and October now. You may like baetis fishing in the fall.

Maybe.
