Missouri River Montana Fishing Report 7.30.13

This month of dry fly fishing fantasy is coming to an end. Yep, July is nearly over.

What is next? August generally comes after July.

What can we expect for flies and conditions? Less heat, less flies, less people. All good.

Missouri River Fishing Report

As for the report. Good fishing today with the wind killing all of the dry fly bite. Strong from the North most of the day. The overcast and cool weather this morning did feel really good. Not 60F until after 10am on Monday.

Much slower on the river this week as the peak season has passed us by. Much more room to breathe out there.

You can get into a non-bug zone as the PMD’s are about done, the Trico’s can be variable, and the caddis…

But that should be short as we get into the terrestrial time. Get some hoppers, ants, and beetles. Drop a nimp underneath and roll on down river.

[forecast]

Cooler is the theme. Bring the rain gear and your north wind wand.

Shop open early as our guides are out the door at or before 6am to get the best part of the day. Then a nap. Then the guests will either wander back out to the river for a caddis bonanza, or to Izaak’s or Missouri River Inn for post fishing fare. Yum.
