Patrick Owen
I first moved to Big Sky, MT in 2002 from the small Mississippi town of Hernando. My father began taking me hunting and fishing at a young age, chasing whitetails in the delta forests and fishing for bass in local ponds and lakes. My passion for the outdoors continued to grow as I got older.
After finishing college at Ole Miss, I took a month long trip to Alaska where I got my first real taste of fly fishing. It was then that I knew I wanted to move to the mountains where I could hunt big game and pursue trout on the fly.
While living in Big Sky, I fished every chance I had. Whether it was spruce moths on the Gallatin, drakes on Slough Creek, or stripping streamers on the Madison, I couldn’t get enough. In August of 2016, I made the move to Craig, MT to make the Missouri River my home water. I joined the Headhunters team this spring.
If I could sum up what life in Craig is like, I think Jerry Garcia said it best:
“It’s pretty clear now that what looked like it might have been some kind of counterculture is, in reality, just the plain old chaos of undifferentiated weirdness.”

Nick Gellerstedt
Hey folks! Originally from Iowa, I’ve been hopping around Utah, Montana, and Minnesota for the past couple years. I grew up fishing for warm water species on the upper Mississippi River. I began fly fishing to chase smallmouth bass in my local creeks. Not long after, I fell into the realm of pike and musky. I really got into trout fishing during my freshman year at Utah State.
After my freshman year I made my first move to Montana, where I attended Montana State and was a member of the MSU trout bums. Unfortunately I had to return to Iowa after the school year. I spent a semester at Iowa State then decided I needed a break. So over the winter I enrolled in a guide school through Gallatin River Guides and stumbled upon the Headhunters job post on the blog.
I currently live just down the road in Wolf Creek and have been loving the whole Craig experience. I am looking forward to the rest of this season and hope to see y’all in the shop![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When you meet these guys in the shop or on the river say hello![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Welcome aboard Nick and Patrick! I look forward to meeting you two at the shop this summer.
Wow, what a couple of great fly guys. This past April I spent a week with Nick and Patrick fishing the mighty MO. We had an excellent time and let me tell you, they can tie up some incredible flys. We cought lots of beautiful rainbows and browns. I was able to land the biggest trout of my life thanks to the excellent instruction. By the way, if you happen to see Nick in the shop or on river please let him know that his dad is proud of him and can’t wait to see him again!
