Cyber Monday Fishing Report
Some of you are busy shopping online on this Cyber Monday. What are we doing here in Craig Montana? Filling orders not only form our web store but running shuttles, chatting with folks ’bout trout fishing the MO. That is what we do everyday! So no different on this Monday.
Remember when shopping with us on our on-line web store that we have a representation of our brick and mortar store. Not all of the products that we carry in the shop proper are included. So, if you don’t see it on the web store, just pick up the phone and give us a shout. We have it in stock. Special Orders? We do it everyday. So let us help you this Cyber Monday whether it be on the computer or on the phone. Or if you are in the neighborhood, just swing on in. Our winter hours never change. 8-6 daily.
Cyber Monday Fishing Report
Good all over. Still fishing all the way down the canyon. Have not heard of anglers not he lower river, but that is not saying that it could not be done. Fishing strong everywhere else for sure.
Shane Wilson of HH was out guiding Saturday fishing the canyon reach and had good catch rates. Small mayfly BWO patterns, sows, scuds, and worms. He did not fish the winter fare. No Firebeads as of yet. That will come when the water temps dip into the 30’s.
Flies that are hot include the aforementioned Tailwater Sow collection, the various colored worm patterns, any of the Czech series, and tiny mayflies like the LGM, the Two Bit, S & M, Radiation BWO, Cheesemen Emerger, Pearl T Headed Lightening Bug, or any of your home brews that are skinny bodied.
I have been doing well tossing the blind dry fly during that late afternoon session. It sorta works during the day. Overcast skies will help that plight. Looks like we may have a bit of that this week. Hopefully that will come to fruition. We are due. Gently cloudy this am as I write this report. The report to the right states mainly cloudy. I want more of that.
The Headhunters gang has been primarily swinging the two handed rod. Trout Spey has infected us here in Craig and we have been enjoying the new rods, lines, and Trout Spey gear for 2017. Come by and check it out. Demo rods always available and education is key for us here on the Missouri River. A 12 month fishery.
Our winter guide trips are discounted to $450. A shorter day with lots of fish as the goal. Or learning. Nymphing produces the most trout, but many are taking advantage of the quiet winter environment to learn more about the two handed rods. Take one of our Trout Spey guides on the river for the day with a buddy or your wife. A great opportunity to really make strides in your spey cast.
Headhunters offers these Trout Spey trips for $450 as well. John Arnold is our spey anchor along with Dewey and Mark rounding out the Spey Guide Team. With the mild winter , so far, a trip on the lonely Mo could be the ticket.
Winter discounts on lodging as well. We will post a blog this week about the winter rates for Craig Trout Camp and beyond. I know we are discounting the lodging per usual. Why not put together a winter weekend getaway with Headhunters?
Speaking of guide trips and lodging…now is a good time to contact your fishing buddies, or family, and schedule your 2017 summer fly fishing trip to the Missouri River. Operators standing by to take your reservations. Any questions about lodging or guides? Call today and we can answer any and all of those important questions. Kelli and Julie are manning the call center 8-6 daily.
