Missouri River Montana July 10th Fishing Report

One third beyond us already is this July. Two-Thirds to go.

Trico’s are the meat on the menu here in central Montana.

Feels like less pressure this month than the last several years. Most of the other rivers in Montana are fishing well and the pressure here is somewhat relieved. Cooler weather has kept some of the weekender splash and giggle crew at bay too.

Spinners, cripples and emerges are the best way to fool those finicky Trico fish. The fish above Craig are more difficult to fool than the fish below Craig. That is my take on things. Many, some, may disagree.

The lower river is fishing well too. Some all the way to Cascade and others are getting it done in the canyon.

A disappointing Yellow Sally hatch, with nearly none seen leaves us a bit upset. The caddis are not all that prolific either. The PMD’s are on the backside of the hatch and that leaves us the Trico fly.

Terrestrials are on the menu very soon here on the Mo. Get out your ant and hopper box and have it at the ready.

Weekends are the busiest time on any river in Montana and the Missouri River is no different. Saturdays are by far the busiest day. Sundays are a close second. Now the weekdays are the best for certain. The masses will be gone shortly and for you locals you will see more river and less floaters. Soon also the non-local locals will head back to their respective local streams.

Missouri River water flows at 4240cfs with water temps fluctuating between 61F and 65F. Weed growth has started but not over the top.
